Shredded - Now On Amazon Prime
In the darkest of times, art can save us and others. Sometimes the antidote is a film that makes you feel like you are not alone. That you are not crazy. You aren’t the only one suffering.
Last week, a few people asked me why I tend to make films that are dark & emotional rather than light-hearted or comedies.
Life can just be awful sometimes. Sometimes it’s full of punch after punch and loss after loss. The best celebrations can be in tandem with the deepest losses.
Sometimes the antidote to pain and loss is a comedy or feel-good film to forget and disappear from the world for a little while.
Sometimes the antidote is a film that makes you feel like you are not alone. That you are not crazy. You aren’t the only one suffering.
Sometimes you need to feel like there’s other people that get you.
More than ever in these challenging times, I hope that someone experiencing deep tragedy can find solace in connecting with another human. Connection is what can save us in the worst of times.
I made Shredded for the person out there that needs to know they aren’t alone. That sometimes life is like surfing in the ocean - nearly drowning you wave after wave. But if you just find a way to get back to your surf board, whatever that is for you, seasons of calm and joy can balance out this wild ride that is life.
And that’s all we can say sometimes in the worst of tragedy and when life feels like a nightmare.
One year ago, we had the world premiere of "Shredded". This is the first feature film I co-wrote, produced, and also starred in, and the proudest moment of my career. It's been such a long journey from conception, to production in May just before the strikes, and finally showing the film to an audience.
When the lights came up at the end of the film, I was reminded of why I do this, and how moving and powerful a film is. Even with the consolidations and strikes, none of that will take away the emotional impact that film has on an audience. Tears were streaming down many audience member's faces, and so many came up to us and shared how they felt this film gave them the permission to face the trauma that was affecting them deeply in their lives, and open up with honesty.
A review from a DFW programmer warmed our hearts, and captured it best:
"A moving meditation on trauma and grief, featuring warm performances from the entire cast. While the story of breast cancer has been told before, the film approaches it from a new angle– challenging audiences to reconsider their perceptions and sparking important conversations about gender and health. Kudos to the filmmakers for their boldness and empathy in tackling such a vital subject matter."
Shredded is now available on Amazon Prime, Fawsome and more.
It would mean the world to us if you are willing to share, watch, and rate on Amazon, IMDB, and more!
PS - If you know any podcasts, or you host a podcast that we could share about our experience making Shredded, we would be so grateful to connect with you!
